“Police Triangle” Design Solution for a New Police Headquarters

Howard Killian, Hanover Park’s director of public works said, “The final outcome is a building that Hanover Park residents are proud of, providing a civic focal point for future redevelopment of the Lake Street corridor and surrounding area.”

The new Hanover Park Police Headquarters has become a shining beacon of public safety within the community. The corner community room adjacent to the public entry serves a variety of group meetings.

The transparent, welcoming staff entry brings officers into the heart of the department with roll call, break, vending, mailbox, and report writing areas nearby.

Our “police triangle” design stages patrol, detention, and evidence areas in close proximity, increasing operational efficiencies by reducing the amount of time required by officers to conduct office work.

We incorporated large amounts of glass in the lobby and community room to create an inviting atmosphere, as well as increase safety at night.

The staff corridor “main streets” have been designed with durable finishes like ground face masonry block walls and polished concrete floors that require minimal upkeep. Skylight elements minimize the need for artificial lighting during the day.

We designed Hanover Park Police Headquarters to meet the demands of modern-day policing by updating the facility's communications system, training facilities, and evidence processing capabilities. By leveraging competitive construction bids and using cost-effective materials, we incorporated a firing range and enclosed 27-car parking garage that was not originally included in the plan because of budget limitations. The modern firing range offers the latest weaponry and downrange tactical training exercises, while also providing acoustic sound control to protect officers.

We incorporated the latest design philosophies regarding advanced police procedures, including advanced technology for security and evidence collection, processing, and storage. Evidence processing areas allow officers to process and secure evidence efficiently and securely while limiting exposure of the evidence to other individuals or possible contaminates, allowing for complete documentation for litigation.
